Tonga

We anchored off an Island where this family lives. They were given the island by the Tonga king for services. The man with the red shirt is the father of all of the children. I think there were 9 in all. The roasted a pig roast and pot luck diner that was delicious. The kids did most of the work with dad overseeing the killing and cooking of the pig. We brought our freeze dried chicken taraki which disappeared quickly.

Niue

Niue is a big flat rock in the middle of nowhere. The anchorage was on the west side of the island and we had hoped that the wind would be out of the east. Alas, it came from every direction and also the waves. It has to be the worst anchorage in the world. The Island and the people were great and we joined the Niue Yacht Club and have a berge to give to BCYC.

There is a river that made this gorge. The river water was cold but if you went down a couple of feet, the salt water was warm.

Suwarrow

Suwarrow is an atoll that is uninhabited. Beautiful water and great snorkeling.  We spent several days there swimming with the sharks. The last snorkel, we had a 6 foot reef shark watching us. When it decided to come straight at me I had to swim straight at it and to my relief, it turned and left. Whoo!!

Hike to Talava Arch

We took this hike to Talava Arch in Niue. The hike was across coral rock and through rainforest, but it was worth the two hours.
